We are a well-recognised Centre for placements – whether that’s trainee counsellors, psychotherapists, or social work students.
We have a working agreement with Manchester Metropolitan University for the placement of social work students, including our own in-house practice teacher.
We have a limited number of places available for counsellors in training. This is because many of the women waiting for counselling need to be seen by a qualified counsellor, so we may not be able to offer you enough hours to complete your placement hours. However, if you have a background, or work experience, in mental health or support work, then please get in touch with your CV.
BACP is the professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK.
Placements are available for 2nd and 3rd year students. Learning opportunities involve holding a caseload offering 1-1 support, drop-in work, attending statutory meetings, group facilitation, needs and risk assessments, safeguarding experience and crisis interventions. SWC offers a safe learning environment, with access to a multi-disciplinary team with varying levels of expertise.
“Considering my new/current research position at Keele University exploring experiences of domestic abuse among young people, I am sure that my time at the centre contributed to my application being a success.”
We offer training to external organisations, via our membership of The Greater Manchester Women's Support Alliance, covering topics such as Understanding Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Working with Women in the Criminal Justice System.
